Hydrogen is the ultimate energy carrier that can supply the future clean energy needs of Australia.

The vision of the Australian Hydrogen Council is a hydrogen economy built upon clean and renewable energy technology, including hydrogen powered transport.

We are a collection of vehicle manufacturers, energy companies and infrastructure providers, with a mission to make this hydrogen vision a reality.

The objectives of the Australian Hydrogen Council are:

 - To accelerate the commercialisation of new hydrogen and fuel cell technologies for transportation, export, storage and stationary applications in Australia

 - To provide a forum for effective communication and collaboration of all stakeholders in the hydrogen and energy community

 - To progress Australia’s shift towards a future hydrogen society built upon clean and renewable energy technologies

We invite interested organisations to join us on this exciting journey. Get in touch for more information or become a member.

Hydrogen Mobility Australia relaunched as Australian Hydrogen Council

October 03, 2019

From today, Hydrogen Mobility Australia will be known as the Australian Hydrogen Council.

Hydrogen Mobility Australia was formed in 2017 by founding members Toyota and Hyundai as a peak body for the hydrogen industry. Since then, the organisation has grown to 34 members from the energy, transport, consulting and technology sectors.

Our name change reflects the diversity of our membership and represents an exciting milestone for the organisation as momentum for hydrogen builds across both mobility and energy applications.

We remain committed to accelerating the Australian hydrogen economy and look forward to continuing our strong relationships with stakeholders from industry, government and research institutions.

The Australian Hydrogen Council has an exciting agenda for 2020, including its inaugural Australian Hydrogen Conference, to be held in Melbourne on 30-31 March 2020.

In the coming weeks we will also revamp our website, with new information to be provided on a range of hydrogen matters, including FAQs.

Congratulations to Hazer Group on its recent funding announcement

September 03, 2019

Congratulations to HMA member Hazer Group on its recent announcement that its application for funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) under the Advancing Renewables Program has been approved by the Board of ARENA.

The Board of ARENA has approved ARENA to enter into negotiations for a funding agreement of up $9.41 million to support the construction and operation of the Hazer Process Commercial Development Project.

The Hazer Process Commercial Demonstration Project is a 100 ton per annum low emission hydrogen production facility that will be the first large scale, fully integrated deployment of the Hazer Process. The Hazer Commercial Demonstration Project is proposed to be located at the Water Corporation’s Woodman Point Waste-Water Treatment Plant, utilising biogas produced at the treatment plant as feedstock to produce hydrogen and graphite.

The design and construction phase of the Project is scheduled to be completed in December 2020, with operations running from January 2021 to December 2023. The Commercial Demonstration Project has an estimated capital cost of $15.8 million.

Congratulations to BOC and ITM Power for the Bulwer Island hydrogen project!

August 26, 2019

Congratulations to HMA members BOC and ITM Power on the commencement of a Queensland-first renewable hydrogen project at BOC's production facility in Bulwer Island, Brisbane.

The $3.1 million end-to-end renewable hydrogen supply project received $950,000 funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and is supported by the Queensland Government.

BOC will install a 220 kW electrolyser supplied by ITM Power and 100 kW solar array to produce renewable hydrogen through electrolysis at its Bulwer Island site. The electrolyser will have capacity to produce up to 2,400 kilograms of renewable hydrogen per month to power hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (HFCEV) and supply BOC’s industrial customers.

A state-of-the-art hydrogen refuelling station will also be supplied and installed by BOC at a site in Brisbane, with capability to refuel HFCEVs in under 3 minutes.

Congratulations to Jemena and ANT Energy Solutions!

August 14, 2019

HMA congratulates members Jemena and ANT Energy Solutions on taking the next step to green the New South Wales gas network.

Jemena has confirmed the purchase of the state’s first electrolyser, which will utilise renewable energy to produce green gas for cooking, heating and hot water in homes and businesses.

The electrolyser, developed in Belgium and Canada by Hydrogenics and brought to Australia by ANT Energy Solutions, will drive Jemena’s Western Sydney Green Gas Project, a $15 million trial, co-funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

The project will produce renewably generated hydrogen gas for use in NSW homes and businesses within the next five years.
